Gatwick to Bethnal Green

Take an overground train from Gatwick to London Bridge Station. Then you will take the 48 bus from the station to the the Warner Place bus stop bus stop on Hackney Road. The bus journey should take 20 minutes. The bus stop is just past Hackney City Farm.

Paper ticket and Oyster Card

  • Purchase a paper ticket labeled ‘Not Gatwick Express’ for travel from airport to London Bridge Station.
  • You will use an Oyster Card to travel on the Tube and on busses within London.
  • You will not use Oyster to travel between the airport and the city.
  • Oyster Cards are the cheapest way to travel on public transport in London.
  • You will pay £3 for the card and I advise that you put £10 credit on the card.
  • When you leave you can return your card and get your £3 and any remaining credit back.
  • You use the card by ‘touching in and out‘ at Tube stations and by ‘touching in’ when you board a bus. You do not ‘touch out’ when getting off the bus.

Travel from Gatwick Airport to London Bridge Station:

  • Take the train from Gatwick to London Bridge Station
  • Purchase a paper ticket from a machine or ticket window.
  • This ticket will be ‘Not Gatwick Express’
  • Check the screens on the platform to make sure you take a London Bridge train.

From London Bridge Station to Bethnal Green by Bus:

  • Many buses depart from London Bridge Station.
  • The bus station is under the canopy just outside the main entrance to the station.
  • The 48 bus originates and terminates at London Bridge Station.
  • The 48 bus leaves from a platform in the middle of the bus station.
  • Use your Oyster Card to travel on the bus.

From London Bridge Station to Bethnal Green by Taxi:

  • There is a taxi rank just outside the station
  • A taxi from London Bridge Station to Bethnal Green should cost £10.
